MIL-STD EMC Specialist Examination

Exam Subjects and Format
What does the Exam Cover?

The examination is a single four (4) hour paper. There are 48 questions in the paper and candidates are required to attempt no more than 40 questions. Inadvertently answering more than 40 questions may harm your chance of success, since only your first 40 attempted questions will be graded.

Half of the questions in the examination will be derived from the MIL STDs and MIL Handbooks, but may also included related DoD standards and specifications and RTCA/DO-160.

The remaining questions in the examination are of an EMC general knowledge and fundamental nature about:
• Bonding
• Grounding
• Shielding
• Antennas
• Filtering
• Amplifiers
• Field Theory
• Electrical Network
• Mathematics
All questions are multiple choice and answers are to be entered onto Scantron cards for grading.

Exam Strategy
The MIL-STD EMC Specialist Exam consists of one section of 48 questions.
You must answer no more than 40 of the 48 questions.

The examination is given as OPEN BOOK, so bring your reference materials, notebooks and laptop computers. We cannot guarantee power or internet access at all locations, so be sure your battery is charged.

For the best chance of success, we recommend the following strategy :

1. Quickly read through all questions and mark those that you would not wish to attempt.

2. Go back through the questions and answer those in which you have most confidence.

3. Check the time. You should have answered 10 or more questions per hour.

4. Go through again and answer those of which you are less confident or that require extra study time.

5. Finally, count how many answers you have. If less than 40, then fill in with some guesswork. We do not subtract marks for wrong answers.
You will be graded on the first 40 questions you answer.
For example: if you answer Questions numbered 1 through 43, you will be graded on questions 1 through 40 only.

Leave enough time at the end to copy all answers onto the Scantron Card using a No.2 pencil.
